Voice Identifier

In this challenge, students will design and construct a system that will identify who is speaking. For this purpose students will use a free machine learning application. They will understand the concepts of building a model with samples, training it and testing results. Students will also learn the basics of the mathematics concerning sound.

This activity should be developed in groups of 3 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are struggling with the machine learning concepts and the use of the software application.

Domestic Roller Coaster

In this challenge, students will construct a roller coaster made of cardboard and other elements where they use gravity to propel their “vehicles” (marbles). Students will follow the engineering design process to design and build the path and will figure out how to improve their design based on testing results and the related theoretical concepts.

This activity should be developed in groups of 3 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are struggling with their concept (the marble does not move or moves randomly).

Hologram Projector

In this challenge, students build a very draft system that simulates holograms. This can be used to explain the physics behind the real holograms

This activity should be developed in groups of 2 or 3 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are constructing the system as it may not give the best results.

Create your Dream House

In this challenge, students build a 3D model of their dream house and then try to create it using cardboard and glue. Students will follow the engineering design process to design and build their house but they can also do it in teams using design thinking. They can later improve their design based on testing results.

This activity should be developed in groups of 2 or 3 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are struggling with the software.

Voice Disguiser

In this challenge, students will record their voices and apply effects to change and disguise it. Students will learn the basics of the mathematics concerning sound.

This activity should be developed in groups of 3 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are struggling with the Audacity tool.

Spaghetti Art

In this challenge, students are required to build a 3D artistic piece using spaghetti, tape and cord. The sculpture should have moving parts that are activated by using air blowers. Students should combine an artistic conceptual approach with the engineering design process to design and build the sculpture and particularly the moving parts and how they fit the static frame. Learners will be aware of the artistic creation process and the engineering design process.

This activity should be developed in groups of 3 or 4 learners. Teachers should help maintain the motivation of the learners particularly when they are struggling with creating the artistic concept.
