Learn about motion with Light Painting

Print Resource

Abstract

Photography has always been a great way to capture a single instance, to freeze a moment in time. In 1878, Eadweard Muybridge famously played with that notion by taking a series of high-speed photographs to see if all four of a horse’s feet come off the ground when it gallops. This developed in to strobe photography, which suddenly created something not only beautiful but also the ability to capture more than a moment in a single photograph. We could now look at time and motion compressed. This activity can be developed individually by learners or as a pair activity (2 learners). Teacher shall maintain a close screw of the work performed by the learners.

Learning Outcomes

The learners will learn about motion with light painting.

  • Organize a teamwork by dividing tasks and roles.
  • Social skills such as leadership, organizational conscience or communication.
  • Physics principles.
  • Capacity of implementing simple calculations and 3D perspective when developing projects.
  • Management of time and resources in order to fulfil the proposed objectives.
  • How to understand kinetics and motion.
  • How to understand physics principles.
  • Learn about motion with light painting.

Other Instructions

In 2 simple steps you will have your light painting: o First you have to make your LED circuit. Grab a LED and put the leads on either side of your 3V button cell, and it should light up. o Cut open the ring, and pull out the circuit to reveal the batteries, the LEDs, and the button that turns it on and off. I simply tore off two of the LEDs and ended up with a single LED that is timed to turn and off. Cut the knives saucer and fix the tab through small sockets.
