Abstract
An aurora, sometimes referred to as polar lights (aurora polaris), northern lights (aurora borealis), or southern lights (aurora australis), is a natural light display in the Earth’s sky, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. These disturbances are sometimes strong enough to alter the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere. This activity can be developed individually by learners or as a pair activity (2 learners). Teacher shall maintain a close screw of the work performed by the learners.

- Organize a teamwork by dividing tasks and roles.
- Social skills such as leadership, organizational conscience or communication.
- Physics principles.
- Management of time and resources in order to fulfil the proposed objectives.
- Social responsibility and awareness.
- How to work in group.
- How to understand physics principles.
- How to create an aurora.
Other Instructions
Case study – Dim Lights: Put the appropriate cable connectors to connect the cell to the motor In these pictures, the settings are: o 1600 iso o 2.8 aperture o 15 sec exposure o The lights were dim and not moving really fast. The exposure was set to 15 seconds to bring up the darker veils of light. However, 15 seconds is long enough to smooth out the delicate strands of light. Case study – Bright Lights: In these pictures, the first thing you notice is the strands of light. I was able to capture them because I used a fast shutter speed. The settings for the first picture were: o 1000 iso o 2.8 aperture o 4 sec exposure Second picture: o 1600 iso o 2.8 aperture o 5 sec exposure
