Δημιουργία σπιτικού θερμοκηπίου με ανακυκλωμένα υλικά

Το θερμοκήπιο είναι μια δομή που παράγει ένα μικροκλίμα ιδανικό για την ανάπτυξη των φυτών. Μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί για την καλλιέργεια φυτών ή για τη φροντίδα τους σε όλη τη διάρκεια της ζωής τους. Τα θερμοκήπια προστατεύουν τις καλλιέργειες από την υπερβολική ζέστη ή το κρύο και θωρακίζουν τους κατοίκους τους από τις καταιγίδες και τις δύσκολες καιρικές συνθήκες. Με άλλα λόγια, βοηθά στον έλεγχο της θερμοκρασίας, της υγρασίας και της φωτεινότητας, τρεις πολύ σημαντικοί παράγοντες στην ανάπτυξη των φυτών. Βοηθούν επίσης στην προστασία από επιβλαβή παράσιτα.

Με αυτή τη δραστηριότητα οι μαθητές όχι μόνο θα μάθουν πώς να φτιάχνουν ένα μικρό σπιτικό θερμοκήπιο και πώς να παρέχουν στα φυτά την τέλεια ατμόσφαιρα για την ανάπτυξή τους, αλλά θα συνειδητοποιήσουν επίσης τη σημασία της επαναχρησιμοποίησης αντικειμένων, της μείωσης της κατανάλωσης πλαστικού και της υπεύθυνης κατανάλωσης. Αυτή η δραστηριότητα μπορεί να αναπτυχθεί μεμονωμένα από τους μαθητές ή ως ομαδική δραστηριότητα και στόχος της είναι να διδάξει στους μαθητές πώς να δημιουργήσουν ένα μικρό θερμοκήπιο στο σπίτι και να ευαισθητοποιήσει σχετικά με την αυτοκατανάλωση και τη μείωση των περιβαλλοντικών επιπτώσεων.

  1. Prepare the cases: clean them if necessary.
  2. Building up the walls: use 4 CDs for the end walls and 6 for the sidewalls. It is important that you place each CD in the correct position before gluing them, therefore, select the pattern of the CDs in a surface such as table.
  3. Glue the centre CD to the wall’s peak: make sure that it is well centred, so, if it necessary use a ruler.
  4. Getting the angles accurate: start by the right corner of the peak by placing a whole case in the empty space (hinge facing the left and the open space facing down). Lay a ruler across the case so that the edges line up with the corner of the full cases next to it and below it. Use your craft knife to score a line across the case that’s going to be cut.
Once the case is marked, score a new line on the other of the case, exactly matching the other line. Now that both sides are marked with a line, open the case up so it lays flat and score matching lines on the inside. Cut over all the lines on the front, back, inside, and outside of the case. You’ll notice that the two pieces don’t hold together very well, so fix this take a leftover part of the case and cut a piece off the edge. Then, glue the edges of the case together and the leftover edge piece in between the front and back of the case to support the top.
  1. Glue the edges of the walls, holding them in place with tape until the adhesive dries.
  2. To make the top of the roof four cd’s are bent in half and lined up to form a peak. In order for the roof to lay flat against the end walls the plastic edge on the short side of the case (the part that’s opposite the hinge) needs to be cut off.
  1. Finishing The Roof With Folding Panels: You’ll need four cases for each side of the roof. Open the cases so they are lying flat, and glue the edges together to make a panel. Place the panels so they overlap the roof’s peak. Be sure the flaps fold up or else you won’t have panels that open for watering and ventilation. Use tape to hold the panels in place until the glue dries.
