Abstract
The first part that is essential to the kaleidoscope is a reflective material. Most kaleidoscopes use mirrors. Long, thin mirrors are set so that they are facing one another. Different numbers of mirrors can be used, depending on the end pattern desired, but commonly, three mirrors are used to generate a pattern based on repeating triangles. They are usually set in cardboard, but kaleidoscopes can be made out of any round, hollow material. Homemade kaleidoscopes can be made using a paper towel roll with aluminium foil for a reflective surface. Older kaleidoscopes were crafted with tin. Some versions use three pieces of blown glass that are set in a triangle. This activity can be developed individually by learners or as a pair activity (2 learners). Teacher shall maintain a close screw of the work performed by the learners.

Learning Outcomes
The learners will learn how to use daily materials in order to make a kaleidoscope.
- Use basic laws of physics.
- Organize a teamwork by dividing tasks and roles.
- Social skills such as leadership, organizational conscience or communication.
- Capacity of implementing simple calculations and 3D perspective when developing projects.
- Management of time and resources in order to fulfil the proposed objectives.
- Watch patterns made from the reflections.
- How to understand basic physics principles.
- How to create a kaleidoscope.
Other Instructions
In 7 simple steps you will have your kaleidoscope: o Form the mirrors into a triangle (shiny side in) and slide them into the tube. If the fit is too tight, sand the outside edges until they just wedge in and don’t move. Make sure you clean them first, because if you can’t get them back out, you’ll never be able to clean them. o Using the clear glue, glue the 1 1/4″ disk onto one end of the tube. Use very little glue. o Glue the cabochon to the other end, using the same glue. Again, just use a dab so that it does not get in the viewing area. Let the glue dry and then enjoy the view through this cool toy. o You can use adhesive backed sparkle film to wrap your kaleidoscope. o Glue the large remaining disk to one end of the 2″ piece of tube. o Here is where you can create some spectacular images. Put a small quantity of something colorful into the short tube. You can use glitter, beads, sea shells, toenail clippings, or whatever. I used small shiny beads here. o Take the 2″ piece of tube and slip it about 1/4″ over the cabochon end of the kaleidoscope. This is why the sparkle paper was 1/4″ shorter than the tube. The fit between the two tubes was so tight, the bigger tube would only slip over the bare smaller tube. Don’t glue the tubes together. That way you can separate them and experiment with different materials.
